Based on Article 1257 of the Civil Code, we find that a document is one of the most important evidences for proving a claim in law. In the Civil Code, a document is a writing that can be relied upon to prove a claim by defending oneself. Therefore, the traditional definition of a document indicates that the document must be material and have an external embodiment, but the increasing trends in the use of electronic devices and new technologies ultimately led to the discussion of electronic documents and their validity from a legal perspective in many countries and the adoption of appropriate regulations in relation to them. In the Iranian legal system, the Electronic Commerce Law addressed this important issue. In this study, which was conducted using a descriptive-analytical method, we intend to examine the evidentiary power of electronic documents compared to other evidences for proving a claim. It should be noted that this study is conducted with evidences that are relevant, dependent, and have a formal and substantive relationship with electronic documents.
