In contemporary democracies, there is a lack of appropriate criteria for distinguishing between efficient and inefficient governance. This issue is particularly evident in underdeveloped nations, where officials often attempt to minimize their accountability after leaving office by offering various justifications. Yet, numerous global scientific studies have demonstrated the direct impact of poor governance on the proliferation of crime. Consequently, quantitative methods such as those used in economics can be employed to accurately assess governance performance. This study utilizes a novel methodological combination integrating descriptive-analytical perspectives with economic analysis and relies on documentary and library research to address the following question: How can the impact of poor governance and inefficiency on rising crime rates in underdeveloped societies be analyzed through economic models while maintaining a descriptive-analytical framework? Drawing upon existing academic literature in this field, it appears possible to construct an optimal model for evaluating governance performance. Research findings suggest that the concept of limited resources versus unlimited needs a fundamental tenet of economics serves as a common link with the principles of good governance. Furthermore, by implementing sound legislation and increasing the costs associated with criminal activity, effective governance analogous to the economic law of supply and demand can be shown to directly contribute to reducing crime rates within society.
